83-Year-Old Patient Arrived in a Wheelchair and Went Home Walking Independently!

Our Neurosurgery Specialist Dr. Oguz YOZEL continues to treat his patients with microsurgical interventions for spinal stenosis decompression without implant (screw) placement.

Our 83-year-old patient, Mrs. Fatma Sozen, had been experiencing leg pain and numbness for 15 years and had spent the last year in a wheelchair. She had visited many doctors, and after examinations and investigations, she was diagnosed with "Spinal Stenosis." Op. Dr. Oguz YOZEL explained to her that surgery could be performed without placing fixation devices such as screws or plates. Our patient was convinced that this method was better than those previously proposed and agreed to undergo the intervention at our hospital.

Mrs. Sozen arrived at the hospital on the day of the intervention, and after her hospitalization, preoperative preparation began. She was admitted to our Neurosurgery department, where all precautionary measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic had been taken.
The intervention was performed through a 4 cm incision and lasted approximately 2 hours, after which the patient was returned to the surgical department. That same evening, in the presence of Op. Dr. Oguz YOZEL, the patient was mobilized and got on her feet.

The following day, the patient was discharged in good general condition, walking independently without the need for a wheelchair.
