Endoscopic Removal of Kidney Stones

Our 67-year-old patient visited Corlu Vatan Private Hospital with complaints such as blood in the urine and pain in the right flank area. He underwent surgery for the fragmentation and elimination of kidney stones in the right kidney (RIRS) performed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Murat RIFAIOGLU – Specialist in Urology.

Upon his visit to the hospital, the patient was carefully examined by his attending physician. During the physical examination, our patient shared his complaints, including pain in the right side and the presence of blood in the urine. He shared that he currently had only one functioning kidney (right) and for this reason, his existing complaints were causing him even greater concern. After the physical examination and detailed imaging investigations, the presence of kidney stones in the right kidney was confirmed. Based on the current clinical condition and the existing complaints of the patient, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Murat RIFAIOGLU recommended that the patient be hospitalized for medical monitoring to stabilize his condition. After two days of medical monitoring and evaluation by the physician, a decision was made to perform a surgical intervention for the removal of the existing kidney stones. The procedure was scheduled for the following day.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Murat RIFAIOGLU applied the Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) technique to reach the right ureter and right kidney through the urinary tract. During the procedure, it was confirmed that there were two stones measuring 1 cm in the right kidney and right ureter. The stones were fragmented and removed using laser technology, and then a ureteral stent was placed to prevent future problems for the patient.

As a result of the successfully performed surgical intervention, the patient was able to recover in a short period of time, and after two days of postoperative monitoring, he was discharged in good overall health condition.
