Nephrology

THE PHYSICIANS

Nephrology is a field of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of patients affected by kidney diseases. It covers all medical conditions that affect the organ, including acute kidney injury or late-stage chronic kidney disease, which often requires complete kidney replacement through dialysis or kidney transplantation.

Any disorder that affects the normal function of the kidneys can lead to serious health problems, including kidney failure or cancer. Nephrology deals with the analysis of kidney physiology and their pathological conditions.

Physicians refer their patients to a nephrologist for various reasons, such as:

  • Uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Kidney stones
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD)
  • Acute or chronic renal failure
  • Need for kidney transplantation
  • Hematuria (blood in urine)
  • Proteinuria (loss of proteins, especially albumin, in urine)
  • Chronic or recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Electrolyte disorders
  • Nephritis (kidney inflammation)
  • Dialysis treatment
  • Autoimmune diseases affecting the kidneys
  • Polycystic kidney diseases
  • Malignant diseases of the kidneys, bladder and urethra
  • Renovascular diseases affecting the blood vessels in the kidneys.
  • Nephrology offers both pharmacological and procedural treatment to help preserve kidney function and prevent life-threatening complications.

In our Nephrology department, evaluation and diagnosis of conditions such as chronic kidney disease, renal failure and urinary tract problems are performed. We offer individualized treatment options tailored to each patient's needs. Those who require organ transplantation are referred to the appropriate centers for continued treatment.
